Karen (Waters) Johnson
Karen graduated from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor with a degree in graphic and industrial design. As an art student she loved her painting and life drawing classes, and signed her work "K Waters", and that's the artist signature that remains today. She recalls her favorite art instructor at the University; Professor Al Hinton, the only Black instructor at the art school at that time and the one who inspired her to continue this path. She continues to recognize him, and feels immense gratitude for his overall encouragement.
Her career footprint began in her hometown of Detroit, then on to Maryland, and completed here in Georgia. Karen retired from a corporate marketing career and promptly returned to her authentic self with brushes and canvases at the ready in her studio with long anticipated images to interpret on canvas.
Her collection includes oil (primarily), watercolor, pencil, archived life drawings, and graphic design. Her range crosses fluently across subject matter from past to present with passionate vibrancy. She considers her North Star an evolution. Her creative expression comes from an authentic space, this journey is personal, it's gratifying and she's excited to share this journey and her artistic vision.
